Boppy Baby Lounger Recall

Boppy Baby Lounger Recall

Boppy Baby Pillows, three different versions

Do not use this product, please see below on how to receive a refund.

Even though this recall from The Boppy Company is a couple of years old as recently as the summer of 2023 these pillow loungers could be found in private sales on Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Kijiji and other sites so I felt it was important to post as permanent blog post for my visitors as too often these stories can be missed.

What does the company say?

The Boppy Company is conducting a voluntary recall of its Newborn Lounger to address a risk of infant suffocation.

Infants can suffocate if they roll, move, or are placed on the lounger in a position that obstructs breathing, or roll off the lounger onto an external surface, such as an adult pillow or soft bedding, that obstructs breathing.

Refunds

Full refunds are available from the Boppy Company.

Something to think about

Story after story this summer has been about who is responsible for recalled products being posted by private seller on things like Facebook Marketplace, eBay or other large selling sites. What do you think? Is it the responsibly of these platforms to prevent and remove these listings when noticed?

Personally, I would love to think that with AI becoming more prevalent as a first line, images that match recalled produces and key words with known recalls or similar should be flagged for a manual review before being allowed to be listed.

Updated news - U.S. lawmakers are recommending banning pillow-like loungers for babies.
You can read all about that in this Forbes article.

What do you think about that type of law being passed? Personally, I think that these kinds of laws shouldn't be needed, products like this should be safe enough families to trust their babies will be safe on them before hitting the shelves!
