Hazard

The swing violates the Safe Sleep for Babies Act as it was marketed for infant sleep and has an incline angle greater than 10 degrees. There have been infant fatalities in inclined sleepers when infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained or under other circumstances. The swing also breaches the Safety Standard for Infant Swings.

Description

The recall pertains to HONEY JOY COMPANY infant swings, specifically models BB5569US-GR in gray and BB5569US-BE in beige (pictures above). 

These swings are made of metal and plastic with a cloth seat, measuring approximately 28 inches wide by 28 inches high and 24 inches wide. 

The brand "Babyjoy" is displayed on the front of the swings and on the seat label. Features of the swing include a head pillow, five-point restraint system, canopy with hanging toys, music function, adjustable seat, and more. 

They can be powered using AAA batteries or an AC adaptor and come with a remote control with Bluetooth functionality.

Safety Instructions

Consumers are advised to immediately cease using the recalled infant swing. They should contact HONEY JOY for instructions on obtaining a full refund and proper disposal of the product. Both HONEY JOY and Amazon are reaching out to all known purchasers.

My thoughts

When I see the angle is the cause of these products being recalled, I have to wonder why are these being made in the first place? These are known safety standards and yet companies still are making them in violation of these basic specs. Hopefully in the future we won't have to have these types of recalls.
